Microsoft is considering taking Xbox Live cross-platform and allowing developers to integrate the service in iOS and Android games, according to a report from The Verge. The report cites a job listing from the company’s website seeking an engineer to work on “a modern framework that is open-source, lightweight, extensible and scalable across various platforms,” including iOS and Android. The report also cites its own sources reportedly familiar Microsoft’s plans to take Xbox Live cross-platform....

Fortunately, the majority of the 36 updates released yesterday focus on stability fixes and hotfixes for Windows 7, Vista and Server 2003/2008. Not being security updates, there’s no need to rush out and install them however, they should appear in Windows Update over the next few days so you can patch your system easily. A few however will probably not be added to Windows Update so you will need to pick through the list below and decide which you want to install manually....

Mark Hamill (Star Wars) is officially guest starring on the upcoming season of Jermaine Clement’s horror-comedy series What We Do In The Shadows. The series, which aired its first season on FX in 2019, is based on the 2014 film of the same name, co-written and directed by Clement (Flight of the Concords) and Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit), who both also starred in the movie. When Apple started pushing its “Mastered for iTunes” section of albums “specially tuned for higher fidelity sound,” it also published a white paper detailing new guidelines asking publishers to submit high-resolution 24-bit/96kHz files instead of the original CD masters for inclusion in the section. Many were under the impression that the 100 or so albums in the new section are sonically closer to the original CD source in comparison to your average AAC encode from iTunes....

There isn’t a whole lot of information of what this update addresses. In typical Microsoft fashion, the update says “This update includes improvements to enhance the functionality of Windows 10.” There is a Microsoft Support page up, although it doesn’t spell out what exactly this update is addressing. Hopefully we’ll get more information on it in the coming days. This updated does require a system restart, and remember you can schedule when restart takes place....

This is true for the original Surface RT to the most recent Surface Pro 3 and each model in between. Microsoft plans to first deliver the tablet version of its productivity suite to the Microsoft Surface, its tablet competitor to the iPad, but this is the first we have heard of such plans....

Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is out with a new investor note today focused on the breakdown of different iPhone models in 2020. Kuo predicts that new mmWave 5G iPhone models will account for between 15% and 20% of new iPhone shipments during the second half of 2020. Kuo has predicted that Apple will bring 5G technology to all new iPhone models in 2020. The company is expected to use modems from Qualcomm....

Mortal Kombat 11 has confirmed its latest roster member, as a reveal trailer released earlier today to showcase Kotal Kahn. Unfortunately for Kahn, though, the trailer doesn’t exactly go the way he would probably have liked, showcasing him getting completely demolished by Jacqui Briggs, another character fans already knew would be featured in the upcoming game. Mortal Kombat 11 isn’t shying away from embracing the game’s ridiculous nature, whether it be in gameplay footage or in narrative....

The MLB today announced a deal with Blast Motion that will see it allow teams to use the accessory maker’s Blast Baseball iPhone-connected swing analyzer sensor. The accessory will first be allowed for use in training for teams, but it will make its first in-game appearance as the official sensor tech for MLB during the 2016 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on July 10.
