With Magic: The Gathering’s World Championship event swiftly approaching, MTG Arena announced today that the digital platform will be getting in on the festivities by running a Worlds XXVI Showcase event that will allow players to pick a constructed deck from one of the competitors at this year’s tournament and play it online. MTG Arena being closely tied to Worlds XXVI is nothing new - the platform made waves earlier for being selected as the only way the event will be played, earning the ire of some tabletop fans who felt it would have been better to split the tournament across both mediums....

Insatiable is a Netflix series that is based on the 2014 New York Times article “The Pageant King of Alabama”. The MCU’s Spider-Man 3 will reportedly start filming this summer, shooting in locations that include Iceland, which may hint at the movie’s villain. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker aka Spider-Man joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016 and has since become a key superhero of the franchise. Not only has he appeared in three team-up movies, he’s lead two solo films of his own - Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home....

The first Call Of Duty League Hype Battle is coming this weekend, and none other than Michael B. Jordan is set to headline it. The award-winning star of Black Panther and the Creed series recently announced his involvement with the event, right on the heels of entering the world of eSports last month. In celebration of the popular first-person shooter franchise’s success and influence in pop culture all around the world, the Call Of Duty League is beginning a new event at eSports competitions called the Call Of Duty League Hype Battle....

Paramount’s Micronauts picks up Dean DeBlois, of How To Train Your Dragon fame, as writer and director. The live-action Micronauts film has been in the works for years, and at one point they were intended to become part of a Hasbro live-action universe, alongside Transformers and GI Joe. Like most Hasbro properties, the Micronauts started out as a toy line. In this case, they were 3.75-inch tall action figures that were known for an unusually high number of points of articulation....

Microsoft has had to pay for over 1.5 million subscriptions to Ninja’s Mixer stream thanks to a promotion the company began offering as part of a move to generate viewership on the streaming platform. Tyler “Ninja” Blevins announced his decision to leave Twitch, the streaming platform that hosted his rise to fame as a Fortnite player, for Mixer earlier this month, signing an exclusivity deal that is reportedly worth upwards of $10-50 million....

Microsoft’s Edge web browser takes another step away from Internet Explorer with its new logo. Microsoft’s latest browser will be releasing on January 15th, with its logo that will put it more in line with the direction of the Microsoft Office suite of programs. With its new logo, Microsoft aims to make Edge more desirable with a suite of additional new features aimed at corporations. For instance, the update will allow people to use the address bar to do things like define company acronyms and search for floor plans and will be usable on systems running macOS, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10....

We reported on Friday that AOL had informed its corporate employees via email that it would be temporarily disabling the ability to manage meetings with Exchange on iOS devices running iOS 6.1. AOL confirmed that it was working with Microsoft and Apple to fix the “continuous loop” bug, and many had highlighted the problem on Microsoft’s forums. It doesn’t appear Apple addressed the issue with its recent release of iOS 6....

Microsoft is taking on Apple, protesting at the latter firm’s claim to a trademark on the name ‘App Store’. Ballmer’s boys are arguing that the term is generic and competitors should be able to use it. Apple applied for the trademark in 2008. It is to be applied in goods and services, including those for computer software solve via the Internet. The App Store is now available for iOS and OS X devices....

Author J.R.R. Tolkien began to work on a sequel to his highly praised children’s book The Hobbit only a few months after it was published. The sequel was a struggle for him, and it took Tolkien twelve years finish The Lord of the Rings and another six years before it was published. The story – published as three separate volumes – has remained incredibly popular and influential in the years since its publication, inspiring music, books, games, and movies....

Netflix’s gripping serial killer drama series Mindhunter has finally returned for season 2, and we’ve put together a guide to show’s cast, and what the real versions of Mindhunter’s characters looked like. Created by Joe Penhall, Mindhunter is based on a book of the same name written by John E. Douglas, an FBI agent who did pioneering work in the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit in the late 1970s. Douglas is represented in the show by Holden Ford, a young and ambitious agent who works together with his BSU colleagues Bill Tench and Wendy Carr to build a database on serial killers....

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has significantly reduced his forecast for iPhone unit shipments in the upcoming quarters. In a new report today, Kuo says that lower demand for iPhone XR means he sees iPhone sales falling year-over-year significantly. For calendar Q1 2019, Kuo predicts sales in the 38-42 million range (down from 50 million in the year-ago quarter for 2018). Kuo also sees significantly lower iPhone sales for 2019 compared to current consensus estimates …...

According to Apple’s system status webpage, several of its iCloud services are experiencing issues this evening. The support page shows that Documents in the Cloud, iCloud Backup, iCloud Drive, iMessage, iWork for iCloud, Mail Drop, and Photos are all experiencing intermittent service issues. The outages have ben going on since 8AM PT/11AM ET, if not longer since Apple is usually late to update its system status graph. Last night, Beats 1 experienced a widespread outage for upwards of 30 minutes....

In an interview with CNBC today, the Mayo Clinic’s chair of cardiovascular medicine, Dr. Paul Friedman shared that they have seen promising results using AI to detect an often symptom-less heart defect. It’s called asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction, which means a weak heart pump. In Mayo Clinic’s studies, they are using AI to read ECGs and finding impressive results identifying weak heart pumps and even predicting individuals who will be at risk in the future....

Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans were very explicit in naming Avengers: Endgame as their final movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the film itself made that clear by giving both of their characters definitive endings. Gwyneth Paltrow also said she was done with MCU appearances, having been playing Pepper Potts in the franchise since it all began with 2008’s Iron Man, but her character never got an ending like theirs....

Meta said it will now “remove Pages, Groups and accounts representing military-controlled businesses.” The company made a similar statement earlier this year when the military staged a coup and removed democratically-elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi. “This builds on our existing ban on these entities advertising on Facebook, which was announced in February, and the various enforcement actions we’ve taken since then which are outlined below,” said Rafael Frankel, director of policy for Meta in APAC-Emerging Countries, referencing this Meta newsroom post....
