Following the announcement last August that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was out the door as soon as the company could find a new captain to lead the ship, the Board finally announced today that it has found its guy: Satya Nadella. As part of the changes, founder and former CEO Bill Gates has agreed to step down from the Board and into a new role as ‘technology advisor’. Gates says he will step up his time at the company meeting with various groups and helping with future products at the request of Nadella....

As we know, Haswell greatly enhances the battery life with its low power requirement while increasing the graphics performance by 50%. The new Docking Station accommodates the Surface Pro 2 with the power cover attached, and is loaded with three USB 2....

Allowing connections to personal Teams accounts should help commercial Teams account owners connect to SMBs, many of which use Teams personal accounts for business, according to Microsoft. Since the feature also extends Teams to chat with external Teams commercial users, this should help Teams commercial customers strengthen ties with vendors and partners of all sizes, while potentially broadening its appeal for business-to-consumer communications. As of last week, Microsoft Teams had 270 million monthly active users (MAU), up from 250 million MAU last July....

The release date and time for the Morbius trailer has reportedly been revealed. Morbius is one of the many Spider-Man villain films that Sony has planned, and is the next one slated to be released. Morbius was confirmed to be in development in 2017, with Jared Leto soon after signing on as the titular character and Daniel Espinosa directing. With the film being confirmed for a few years, fans have gotten plenty of updates about Morbius since 2017....

There has been no end to the low-cost, plastic iPhone rumors in recent months, and in return, no shortage of mock ups and renders showing what the device could potentially look like. We’ve seen a few images that allegedly show the backplate of the yet to be released low-cost iPhone, and we even had our own mock ups of the device in a selection of colors. The latest take on the device comes to us from Martin Hajek (via Gizmodo), who we know from many other projects in the past including another low cost iPhone concept....

Tests suggest that using Apple’s new MagSafe charger with previous-generation iPhones could result in super-slow charging compared to normal Qi wireless chargers. Testing on the iPhone 11 Pro, for example, showed a charging rate as low as 0.96W against the 7.5W it should have drawn. Apple says that the MagSafe charger launched last week is Qi-compatible, and thus suitable for older iPhones … The charger claims to deliver 15W when charging the iPhone 12 when powered by a 20W power brick....

Apple has announced a major new expansion to its Everyone Can Code initiative, designed to teach students how to use its Swift coding language to create iOS apps. The program began by offering a free ebook, followed by a complete course curriculum for colleges, later rolled out worldwide. This latest initiative will see that curriculum offered to half a million students in Chicago … Chicago Public Schools will also offer new Swift Coding Clubs, bringing coding education to after-school programs....

Some iPhone users who’ve tried the new Google Maps already will want to use the app instead of the often-criticized Apple Maps. The new Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps will replace the existing Office Mobile app for iPhone users and the apps on iPad are also getting an update to enjoy the same features. Microsoft also announced a “preview” of new Office apps for Android tablets, allowing users to sign up to join the preview at the Google Play store, with general availability being set for early 2015. Although anyone using an Office mobile app can now create and edit across the for free, an Office 365 subscription will still be needed for more advanced editing of Word docs, images and charts....

Today was Microsoft’s Windows Tablet 8 unveiling. The product on the surface looks cool, people are hyped, but alas it will be a year before real products are given to real people.
