Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman’s hit DIY series Making It is back for season 2, and now the cast has been revealed. The winner of season 1 was Khiem Nguyen.
The premise of the show is to gather Makers from across the country, and give them a number of crafting competitions that will then be judged. Offerman and Poehler are both thrilled to be returning for a second season. “I’m so happy to be back in the barn for Season 2 of Making It with my pal Nick, where the Makers create masterpieces and everyone continues to aggressively like each other,” Poehler said. Offerman agreed, adding, “I’m so excited for America to see our new crop of crafting champs. Their creativity and pluck make my job feel like I’m getting paid to cheer at the Olympics.”
There are 10 contestants competing for the $100,000 prize in season 2. Ashley Basnight (Norman, OK) is a former Boeing software engineer who has a DIY blog called Handmade Haven; Aspen Vo Hasse (Marina Del Rey/San Francisco, CA) is a newlywed and full-time calligrapher; Eagan Tilghman (Meridian, MS) is a pastor’s son and a master-craftsman; Floyd Davis (Chicago, IL/ Los Angeles, CA) just moved to the West Coast. He’s done large-scale installations for clients like Red Bull and Chance the Rapper; Jamie Hudson (Portland, OR) is a PhD scientist who started the crafting company 20 Leagues; Jessie Bearden (Austin, TX/New York, NY) is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work has been featured in American Express and ESPN commercials ; Justine Silva (Andover, MA/Los Angeles, CA) is an interior designer and project manager; Lilly Jimenez (Miami, FL) is the inventor of Balloon Mosaic, an innovative digital product for at-home makers; Matt Kawika Ortiz (Honolulu, HI) is a muralist whose work has been featured in the Smithsonian; and Rebecca Propes (Gilbert, AZ) is an Etsy shop owner and runs her own design studio.
In season 2, the Makers will be tasked with even greater challenges. They’ll have to work with different types of materials such as wood, felt, and food. They’ll also have to complete office makeovers, as well as holiday creations. Aside from Poehler and Offerman, judges Simon Doonan, Creative Ambassador at Barneys New York, as well as Dayna Isom Johnson, Etsy’s trend expert, will return. Viewers won’t have to wait long for the winner; NBC will broadcast the episodes in hyperdrive, resulting in the show’s finale culminating in the same month as its premiere.
It’s nice to see Offerman and Poehler working together after their years on Parks and Recreation. Their onscreen chemistry on Making It gives the show a fun, comedic tone. Meanwhile, the Makers from season 2 are incredibly skilled and competitive. Their design backgrounds are hip and contemporary, and should result in some pretty fierce craftwork. Even if DIY isn’t your thing, the colorful and whimsical vibe of this show will change all that. Making It is also perfect for families struggling to find programming suitable for everyone this holiday season.
