John Wick squares off against Baby Yoda of The Mandalorian fame in a new fan-made poster. When Disney announced a new Star Wars series for their streaming service Disney+, featuring a bounty hunter character in Mandalorian armor in a story set after the fall of the Empire, fans anticipated an action-packed show filled with classic Star Wars-style elements. What they didn’t expect was the arrival of a new character who would immediately capture the hearts of not only hardcore fans but pretty much everyone around the world (including Mandalorian actor and legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog).
But The Mandalorian shocked everyone when, in episode one, the show introduced a character known only as The Child who was immediately christened Baby Yoda (being an infant of the same species as the iconic Star Wars character). Since that shocking intro, Baby Yoda has taken off to become a pop culture phenomenon beloved by creators of memes, fan art and mash-up videos. Some outstanding examples of Baby Yoda-inspired art include a video pitting the little green alien against Star Wars villian Darth Sidious, an example of fan art featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and even a disturbing image in which a pack of Baby Yodas attack Jabba the Hutt.
Now, noted fan artist BossLogic has gotten in on the action with his own poster featuring a legendary face-off between Baby Yoda and Baba Yaga. See the poster in the space below:
John Wick of course has become a pop culture icon in his own right, and in 2019 the character’s legend only grew with the release of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, which set up future sequels for the Keanu Reeves-led franchise. The sight of Wick squaring off against Baby Yoda indeed makes for a nice symbolic summing up of 2019 in pop culture, though it is a little disturbing seeing Wick apparently getting ready to take out the child (a shadow looming behind Baby Yoda implies that The Mandalorian is nearby in case things get violent).
Of course, knowing Wick’s own fondness for dogs and hatred of bad guys, he probably would not end up shooting Baby Yoda but would instead become his protector much like The Mandalorian himself. Indeed, there are parallels between the character of Wick and The Mandalorian, in that they are both mercenaries with mysterious backstories who possess ridiculous fighting skills, live by a (sometimes breakable) code and have a soft spot for vulnerable creatures.
Ultimately, it seems that a real meeting between John Wick and Baby Yoda would likely result in friendship rather than a showdown. Of course, though Baby Yoda may look like he would easily be taken out by Wick, he does have the power of the Force to protect him (though fans have learned that, due to his tiny size and lack of maturity, he runs out of energy very quickly). It will be interesting to see if Baby Yoda reveals any more of his Force powers as The Mandalorian plays out on Disney+.
