Mark Hamill may be a Jedi master, but he became the Padawan when he teamed up with Tyler “Ninja” Blevins for a recent round of Fortnite. Their meeting came after last week’s in-game crossover with Fortnite and Star Wars, which saw the debut of a new trailer for The Rise of Skywalker inside the popular battle royale.

As Fortnite has grown into a pop culture juggernaut, it’s had plenty of crossovers with other IP in-game. Its massive event featuring Avengers: Endgame, was one of the most involved, featuring appearances from Thanos, items based on various Marvel heroes, and the devastating Infinity Gauntlet weapon. Fortnite has also gotten skins from John Wick, items from Borderlands, and a crossover with Batman and Joker.

During a recent appearance on Xbox Sessions to play Fortnite’s Winterfest update, Mark Hamill also gives some interesting insight into his life. Hamill jumps at the chance to promote the Neighborhood Academic Initiative, a program that helps students in Los Angeles get accepted to and pay for college, calling his ability to work with charities “one of the greatest fringe benefits of celebrity.” An accomplished voice actor, Hamill also explains the difference between acting for games and any other medium, saying the process of recording alternate dialogue takes to suit multiple different styles of player is “mind-boggling.”

Hamill and Ninja also chat about gaming, with Hamill revealing that while he doesn’t play much himself, he has bought consoles - starting with the Magnavox Odyssey 2 - as a way of bonding with his children. After that, they dive into the game, joined by streamer Simby and Hamill’s sons, Nathan and Griffin. Hamill does about as well as can be expected for a first-timer, getting an elimination with the pickaxe (for which he awards himself “10,000 points”) before getting taken out himself and leaving it to Simby and Ninja to demonstrate some of the basics of the game.

Even for people who aren’t fans of Fortnite, Hamill’s natural charisma makes his Xbox Sessions video a joy to watch. Getting the chance to see Hamill hamming it up unscripted shows just how much he’s able to walk into even an event as out of his wheelhouse as a gaming session with Ninja and steal the show. The brief glimpse of Hamill enjoying the game with his sons and talking about his voice acting experience make it even more of a treat for fans of the legendary actor.
