Star Wars icon Mark Hamill shares video of a woman with crazy lightsaber skills, making many fans wonder why Mara Jade hasn’t made it to the big screen yet. Hamill is of course the actor behind the beloved character Luke Skywalker, who appeared in the original trilogy, as well as the first two movies of the sequel trilogy. Hamill will also return for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but it’s unknown how extensive his role will be.

While Luke is one of the most recognized Star Wars characters, Jade is also famous in her own right. Jade first appeared in the 1991 book Heir to the Empire, part of the noncanonical Star Wars Expanded Universe. Jade originally started out as the Emperor’s hand, but after his death, she was tasked with killing Luke Skywalker. This mission caused the character to go rogue, become a smuggler, and eventually fall in love with Skywalker. Jade ended up becoming a Jedi Master, marrying Skywalker, and sharing a child with him named Ben. Jade is later killed by her nephew Jacen Solo in the book titled Sacrifice. Now with a new video shared by Hamill himself, fans are wondering why the character still hasn’t been in a movie.

Posting on Twitter, Hamill shared a video of a woman with insane lightsaber skills, making it clear that Star Wars is just as much a series for females as it is for males. The woman in the video is named Michelle C. Smith, a stunt woman who’s worked in projects like Deadpool and Red Riding Hood. The video comes complete with lightsaber sound effects and slow motion effects. It isn’t known for sure whether Smith is supposed to be dressed as Jade, but her red hair certainly makes people think of the fan-favorite character. Hamill’s full post can be seen below.

Jade hasn’t made her way to the big screen just yet, but there have been plenty of powerful female characters in the Star Wars films. While she was originally seen as a damsel in distress, Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia quickly turned into a strong female character. There has always been powerful female figures in the Star Wars films, such as characters like Adi Gallia, Shaak Ti, Aayla Secura, and Ahsoka Tano. The newer Star Wars films have also done a good job of including strong female leads like Daisy Ridley’s Rey and Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso.

While the character hasn’t been confirmed for a Star Wars movie, there are rumors that Jade could appear in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Part of these rumors stem from Keri Russell being cast in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and the fact that many people still think that Rey is a Skywalker. With as tight-lipped as Disney and Lucasfilm are about their upcoming projects, fans likely won’t know until the film’s release if Mara Jade is in The Rise of Skywalker, but can maintain their wishful thinking with Star Wars fan videos like this for the time being.
