Mark Hamill (Star Wars) is officially guest starring on the upcoming season of Jermaine Clement’s horror-comedy series What We Do In The Shadows. The series, which aired its first season on FX in 2019, is based on the 2014 film of the same name, co-written and directed by Clement (Flight of the Concords) and Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit), who both also starred in the movie. The new adaptation stars Kayvan Novak (Four Lions), Matt Berry (The IT Crowd), Natasia Demetriou (Stath Lets Flats), and Harvey Guillén (The Magicians).

The television series follows the daily lives of three vampires who live together on Staten Island. It has been a critical success, and the second season premieres on April 15th on FX. Many well-known actors have guest-starred on What We Do In The Shadows already, including Evan Rachel Wood, Wesley Snipes, and Tilda Swinton. Many of them were reprising past vampire roles, like Swinton’s character in Only Lovers Left Alive, and Snipes’ famous character Blade. Golden Globe Nominee Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart) played a fan-favorite character named Jenna in the first season, but will be unable to return due to scheduling conflicts. Despite this loss, there are sure to be other great guest actors joining Hamill in the new season.

Hamill recently broke the news about his What We Do In The Shadows role through a post on his Instagram. He references a tweet he made last year about an upcoming project he was really excited about, but at the time he couldn’t say what it was due to an NDA. Thankfully, series creator Clement announced Hamill’s upcoming appearance himself at the show’s Television Critics Association press day panel, as reported by Variety. This allowed Hamill to finally share the news of his appearance with his fans. Clement didn’t give any other news about the new season, except that it will introduce more supernatural creatures.

While he’s most well-known for playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films, Hamill has a history both in comic adaptations and the horror movie genre. His most recent horror film, the Child’s Play remake, even got Stephen King’s approval. He has also voiced a number of great animated characters, though he is most recognized for voicing the Joker in animated Batman TV series and films. He was also almost the voice of Zim from Invader Zim, as he voiced the character in the original pilot.

This news adds further excitement to the upcoming show’s season 2 premiere, and Hamill is an amazing addition to an already talented cast. There is no news about what role he will be playing, including whether he will be a vampire or not. As Hamill said on his post, fans will have to stay tuned leading up to What We Do In The Shadows’ new season release to see what his role has in store.
