Mark Millar should be a familiar name to fans of comic-book film adaptations. The comic creator has an impressive back catalog of movies, including Wanted, Kick-Ass and the hugely successful Kingsman: The Secret Service. He’s also the writer of the Marvel event ‘Civil War’, which was recently adapted for the big screen in Captain America: Civil War.
Now, another Millar comic is making its way to the big screen: Chrononauts. The series, a bromance about a couple of rakish time-travelers, was picked up by Universal two years ago, but has been languishing in development since then. This week, however, the project has found its writer and producer, and Millar is now looking at who could star in the final film.
Today, the writer took to Twitter to talk about the upcoming film, and to reveal who he would like to see star. He posted three connected tweets, saying that he originally had Chris Pratt and Chris Hemsworth in mind, but that there could be no casting until the script is finished. His tweets read:
Re Chrononauts casting - Back before it was a comic my pal at Universal asked me if I could come up with something for Pratt & Hemsworth.— Mark Millar (@mrmarkmillar) April 19, 2017
This was super-exciting as I love them both & had a short film idea I adapted into Chrononauts. Sean even referenced them in #4’s finale :)— Mark Millar (@mrmarkmillar) April 19, 2017
But this was a couple of years back and my VP pal has since moved on. No casting on the cards until a script is done and dusted.— Mark Millar (@mrmarkmillar) April 19, 2017
This would certainly be a property that would suit both Pratt and Hemsworth, and should this casting come to pass, there’s little doubt that it would help to make Chrononauts a huge success. Both actors have plenty of experience with action-adventure, courtesy of their roles in the MCU, where Hemsworth brings Thor to life and Pratt is Star-Lord. Both roles are also comedic, which is a huge part of the Chrononauts’ tone. These two may even end up meeting in the Marvel galaxy, either in the upcoming Infinity War, or in another property that takes advantage of Thor’s galactic comic book history.
Of course, this is not yet casting news, as Millar himself points out. Although he would love to see these two comic stars bring Corbin Quinn and Danny Reilly to life, absolutely nothing is confirmed. Chrononauts may well clash with filming schedules for either or both of these actors – especially as Pratt is in the middle of working on two huge franchises (Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World) and Hemsworth is unlikely to want to spend too much time away from his family in Australia in order to film multiple franchise films in the US. However, we’re looking forward to finding out if either actor may join the project once the script has been completed.
Chrononauts does not yet have a release date.
