Marvel fans can now breathe a sigh of relief as the film studio has confirmed they will have a presence at San Diego Comic-Con this year. By the time SDCC rolls around, Marvel will have already released both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Still, they’ll be quite keen to get the word out about this fall’s Thor: Ragnarok, which is said to have quite the impact on the future of the MCU. They’ll also likely be keen on teasing Black Panther, as the movie has already begun filming and will release early next year.
Just because Marvel have content on the horizon, however, doesn’t always mean they’ll have a big presence at the flagship convention. In both 2011 and 2015 they sat things out, preferring to release details about their films on their own terms. There’s also Disney’s own D23 convention, where looks at the company’s movies have been displayed in years past. And while D23 and this past weekend’s Star Wars Celebration Orlando could mean Lucasfilm will sit out SDCC, Marvel Studios will be there in a big way.
Deadline is reporting that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has confirmed his company will be at SDCC this year, hosting a panel in the famous Hall H as they have in years past. While there’s no word yet on what Marvel will be bringing to the convention, looks at the next few years are almost guaranteed.
Earlier today, we shared a few glimpses that have already been revealed about the future of the MCU. During an open house at Marvel Studios, concept art for Ant-Man & the Wasp and Captain Marvel were both shown. As such, it’s a safe bet that similar looks at these films will be on display at SDCC this year. Aside from that, Ragnarok and Black Panther are sure to be heavily represented, and next year’s Avengers: Infinity War may even get a teaser.
Aside from the movies, we’re likely to get lots of look at Marvel TV. Even when the film studio has sat out SDCC, their live-action and animated TV shows were represented. Assuming Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. gets a season five renewal, we’ll likely see it and this fall’s Inhumans on display. Then there’s The Defenders and The Punisher, both coming after the convention to Netflix. And of course, fans will be anxious to hear if any new TV shows or even films get announced at the convention. As usual, anything’s possible at SDCC, so it’s exciting to know that Marvel will make their presence felt.
San Diego Comic-Con takes place from July 20–23 this year in San Diego, CA.
