Marvel has confirmed the full list of MCU movies available on Disney+ on its launch day. Disney’s streaming service will house all of the studio’s films and TV shows moving forward, including those from Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar, and Fox. Most of the MCU movies to date will have already streamed on Netflix at some point, with the exceptions of this year’s non-Sony affiliated installments, Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. Those billion-dollar blockbusters will instead go straight to Disney+.
Just last week Disney bumped Endgame’s premiere on Disney+ up a month from December to its launch on Tuesday, November 12. It was widely received as a smart move meant to ensure the MCU’s fans sign up for the subscription-based service sooner than later, ahead of the upcoming MCU Disney+ series Marvel has planned. Now, with Disney+ hours away from going live stateside, Marvel has revealed their full MCU movie lineup for launch.
Taking to Twitter, Marvel confirmed its MCU film roster for Disney+’s launch. In addition to Captain Marvel and Endgame, the list includes Iron Man 1-3, the Captain America trilogy (The First Avenger, Winter Soldier, Civil War), Thor and Thor: The Dark World, Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 & 2, Doctor Strange, and Ant-Man. You can check out part of their Twitter thread below.
Even with sixteen movies accounted for, Disney+ will be missing several MCU films when it goes live. Among the absences are the MCU’s solo Spider-Man movies, The Incredible Hulk, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Black Panther. The Spider-Man films are Sony productions and The Incredible Hulk was distributed by Universal, so that explains their absence. As for the others, they will undoubtedly make their way to Disney+ at some point in the foreseeable future. There is a catch, though: the MCU films released between January 2016 and December 2018 have to return to Netflix in 2026, per the original licensing agreement between Netflix and Disney. That includes a number of the MCU movies available at launch.
By then, Disney+ will house a whole lot more MCU movies, in addition to the aforementioned TV shows being developed. Over the next two years alone, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will debut, followed by Loki, WandaVision, and the Hawkeye series. And unlike MCU movies and TV shows past, these series will interconnect with the events in the films - meaning, in order to stay up, MCU fans will have to get a Disney+ subscription. The streamer will even include a TV show (titled Expanding the Universe) dedicated to previewing its various MCU series in Phase 4 and beyond.
Disney+ and its MCU movie lineup goes live on Tuesday, November 12.
