Earth’s Mightiest Edition, the Marvel’s Avengers game’s most collectible special edition, is packed with bonus items inspired by the game’s titular main cast of heroes. Publisher Square Enix notes that each collector’s edition goody is based on in-game events and items, so these bonuses could also tell fans a little about the game’s story.
Developed by Tomb Raider’s Crystal Dynamics and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided’s Eidos Montréal, Marvel’s Avengers is a third-person action game starring Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, and more. Despite the popularity of Disney’s MCU, Marvel’s Avengers is entirely unrelated. That means original character designs, which initially resulted in mixed reactions from Avengers fans. This prompted the developers to update Thor and other characters’ appearances based on fan feedback, which may have contributed to the game’s delay.
As a multiplayer, live-service game, Marvel’s Avengers will be adding free post-launch characters. The six characters playable at launch, however, make up the core of its Avengers team, and each is referenced in an Earth’s Mightiest Edition item. Here’s all the Marvel’s Avengers collector’s edition items detailed - and what each could mean about the game’s story.
Marvel’s Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Edition Details
Most of the items included in the Marvel’s Avengers special edition are fairly straightforward: The Black Widow belt buckle is modeled after Black Widow’s in-game belt buckle, and the Mjolnir keychain is Thor’s signature weapon in miniature form. The origin of the Honorary Avenger pin is a bit less clear, but it seems to be a reference to the same event seen in the Avengers Day group photo - perhaps Ms. Marvel, then just Kamala Khan, received the pin as a keepsake when meeting the Avengers on Avengers Day. The Iron Man blueprint appears to be the design for the main suit Tony Stark wears in the game, but it’s also possible it’s for some kind of special suit he designs later into the game’s story
The most mysterious of the items, strangely, is the Hulk bobblehead. Seen in Bruce Banner’s (Hulk’s) car in the Kamala Khan reveal trailer, it has “Love, Tony” written on its base, suggesting Iron Man might give it to Bruce at some point in the game’s story. Perhaps it’s used as a tongue-in-cheek apology after Bruce and Tony’s argument in the Marvel’s Avengers E3 2019 trailer - the same trailer where the Earth’s Mightiest Edition’s Captain America statue appears.
In addition to the physical items, those who purchase the Earth’s Mightiest Edition will receive the in-game bonuses found in the Marvel’s Avengers Deluxe Edition, as well as 72-hour early access to Marvel’s Avengers.
