There’s no denying the story potential of the incredible Hulk, turning an otherwise well-meaning hero into a force of destruction. And when you have the chance to inject that story into an existing hero, the appeal is even harder to resist (we’re looking at you, Marvel’s instant fixture, Hulkverine). But what happens when you mix the power of the raging Hulk with Spider-Man, the one hero built on the idea that power demands responsibility? Fans are about to find out in Immortal Hulk: Great Power.
Yes, after the Immortal Hulk declared war on planet Earth and its climate-ignorant nations in his main series, and merged with the Venom symbiote to take on Carnage, it’s the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man next in line for a power-combo. And while the first preview pages deliver the transformation fans can’t wait to see, the logic behind the power-swap remains a mystery.
The fact that Immortal Hulk: Great Power has Tom Taylor and Jorge Molina behind the wheel means fans will give them the opportunity to make even a story this wild make sense. A story that begins in a pleasant light in the official preview pages, allowing Bruce Banner to wake up without feeling the monster lurking inside of him. Of course, it’s a monster he is used to controlling. Which means the lack of its presence spells disaster even before Peter Parker reveals the Hulk has found a new home inside of him. Enjoy the first official preview pages for Immortal Hulk: Great Power #1 below:
The question fans will be asking now is exactly how the Hulk identity leaves Bruce for Peter at all. The note that Great Power won’t be impacting the overall Immortal Hulk story is a welcome confirmation, but after readers take one look at a Hulk-ified Spider-Man, we doubt any questions will be more important than just sitting back, and enjoying the ride.
