The Avengers may not have crossed paths with the Eternals in the MCU just yet, but Kevin Feige has revealed that the Eternals are already aware of their presence. We know that the eagerly anticipated Eternals movie will be the second entry in Marvel’s Phase 4 slate, but other than that, details such as plot and setting have been scarce. Would the exploits of the god-like beings be set in the present or long before the Avengers came to being? It looks like fans may now have their answer.
Appearing at CCXP this year, Marvel Studios showed off the first footage from the Eternals, along with some fresh footage of Black Window, also due in 2020. In addition to revealing new details on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the President of Marvel Studios also explained how the Eternals relate to Earth’s mightiest heroes, who are surely destined to interact at some point down the line in a crossover of epic proportions.
Comic Book was in attendance at a press conference at CCXP during which Kevin Feige briefly discussed the relationship between the Avengers and the Eternals, as well as teasing more to come from the Celestials.
These comments reaffirm the Celestials playing a vital part in the story, concept art of which has already been released. There was no elaboration on how the Eternals view the Avengers or what they were up to during the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, so it’ll be interesting to see if explanations are given during the film. Comic book fans will be aware that super villain Thanos also has a connection with the other worldly characters, but it remains unclear is Marvel is bringing that into their shared universe.
“The Eternals know about the existence of The Avengers. The Avengers don’t know much about The Eternals…yet. Celestials are a big part of it, you’ve seen a little of the Celestials in Guardians of the Galaxy. Nowhere is the severed head of a Celestial. We will see the Celestials in their full, true enormous power in The Eternals.”
The Eternals footage shown at CCXP hasn’t been released publicly, so fans will have to wait for the first teaser trailer for more details to be uncovered. This will of course be the first appearance by the Eternals on the big screen, so it’s not easy to predict how the franchise will fare with audiences just yet. Guardians of the Galaxy was also an unknown entity when it debuted, however, and went on to be a major success with critics and at the box office, so Marvel will no doubt be hoping for the same when the Eternals hits screens in November 2020.
