New set photos for WandaVision confirm Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) works for SWORD, and show her working with Jimmy Woo (Randall Park). As one of the first shows from Marvel Studios that will arrive on Disney+, WandaVision is set to give Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) a story of their own. The series has been described as half sitcom, half MCU epic, with it laying the groundwork for Wanda’s role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness next year.
Even though Wanda and Vision are the stars of the series, WandaVision is going to expand the MCU in a number of ways. One of the ways this will happen is by continuing the story of Monica Rambeau, who audiences last saw as a young girl in Captain Marvel. Previous set photos for WandaVision gave fans the first look at the adult Monica and teased that she might be working with Nick Fury’s intergalactic organization SWORD. Now, her association with the cosmic version of SHIELD has been confirmed.
In the latest round of set photos from WandaVision’s production, Parris was spotted filming scenes with Park and her clothing is noteworthy. After having a SWORD badge in prior photos, Monica is now suited up in officially branded attire for the organization. Her blue jacket has the SWORD logo plastered on the shoulder, with the organization even following in SHIELD’s footsteps and putting the logo on their black SUVs. This confirms that Monica is working for Fury in WandaVision, but there are no signs that Woo is an agent of SWORD too.
Monica working with SWORD is a logical next step in her MCU arc. She was exposed to the wonders of the cosmos in 1995 as she learned about Carol Danvers’ (Brie Larson) abilities and met the Skrulls. This likely sparked a fascination with what else could be in space. She also has already met Fury, so he very well could’ve recruited Monica for SWORD. It wouldn’t be surprising to learn that her mother Maria (Lashana Lynch) worked with the organization in the past too. This could also help shape Monica’s MCU future, as her involvement with cosmic activities could lead to her getting powers too and becoming Photon.
To this point though, it is not yet confirmed why SWORD is involved in WandaVision at all. The small amount of footage that Marvel has released for the series did not show anything involving Monica or SWORD, and instead focused on the multiple time periods Wanda and Vision’s life will explore. That said, rumors have pointed to the half-Kree, half-Skrull Hulkling having a role in the series and possibly even seeking refuge with SWORD. Whatever the case may be, Monica becoming a SWORD agent in WandaVision is just one more reason to be excited for the show’s release at the end of this year.
