New WandaVision set photos reveal the base of SWORD. After initially scheduled to roll out spring of 2021, the Marvel Studios’ show for Disney+ has been pushed forward to a release date later this year. And with production in full swing, fans are treated to some filming images, the latest of which further confirms the space-oriented organization will factor in the series’ narrative.
Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprise their roles as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Vision, this time on the small screen, with a story focused on their relationship. After getting to know each other better in Captain America: Civil War, Wanda and Vision fully engaged in a romantic relationship that tragically ended with the latter’s death in Avengers: Infinity War. Plot details for the upcoming show are still tightly under wraps, but it’s confirmed to take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame and its story will directly connect to Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. As Marvel Studios continue to keep spoilers in check, WandaVision set photos have now confirmed a new SWORD location will appear on it.
Images from the set of WandaVision have made their way online thanks to Atlanta Filming. The new batch of shots show a group of military tents believed to be a new base for SWORD on Earth. Check out the snaps below shared on the source’s official Instagram.
In the Spider-Man: Far From Home post-credits scene, SWORD was officially introduced in the MCU when it was revealed that Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) asked Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) to disguise as himself and deal with Peter Parker’s issues. This allowed him to stay in an unknown space station where he’s cooking something up with Skrulls. The shape-shifting aliens were first introduced Captain Marvel and became allies of Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) after the Kree abducted and kidnapped her. SWORD and the Skrulls aren’t the only connection WandaVision has to the prequel, it’s also set to debut adult Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Paris) who first appeared in the origin film.
Aside from its obvious implications to WandaVision and Captain Marvel, the confirmation that SWORD has set up a mobile base on Earth might be an indication of something big for the overall MCU. Since the shape-shifting aliens were introduced, rumors that Marvel Studios’ is planting seeds for a potential Secret Invasion have been rampant. A more recent report suggests Kevin Feige and his team are even planning a TV show adaptation of the popular comic book run by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Traces Yu. Based on set photos alone, it’s difficult to gauge how big of a part SWORD will play in WandaVision’s story, but this isn’t the first glimpse of the organization. In any case, fans won’t have to wait for too long to learn more about the secretive series as Bettany said that more information about it will be released very soon.
