Indian actress Priyanka Chopra is potentially in talks for a future MCU movie, Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo reveals. Marvel Studios’ will wrap-up its 22-film arc spread throughout the last decade with the upcoming ensemble flick. Avengers: Infinity War’s direct sequel, Endgame will pick up after Thanos’ snap that wiped out half of population in the whole universe. Focus will now shift to the remaining heroes, particularly the original Avengers who are up for possibly their final mission as a team with some, maybe most of them not surviving the upcoming fight against the Mad Titan.
Considering the number of casualties expected in Endgame, Marvel Studios is already looking to fill out their superhero roster after the likes of Iron Man and Captain America are no longer around come Phase 4. As of now, Kevin Feige and his team are still mum about what projects are currently on the docket past Spider-Man: Far From Home, which will usher the new era of the MCU. There are rumblings about future projects such as Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow solo film, The Eternals and Shang-Chi - all of which have locked in their respective directors, while sequels like Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are supposedly in early stages of development. And if Russo’s recent comments lead somewhere, Chopra might star in one of these upcoming movies.
Speaking with Hindustan Times, Russo named Chopra as the Indian actor he wants to work with in the MCU, and apparently, things are already in motion to bring her into the superhero franchise with Marvel Studios in talks with her for a potential role. “I’d love to work with Priyanka. I’m smiling only because we’re potentially talking to her about something, I’m just not going to say what yet,” he said. The director is in India to kick off the global marketing campaign for Endgame, saying that they purposefully wanted the South Asian nation to be a stop on the press tour considering the growing number of passionate fans in the country.
Chopra (who’s married to Nick Jonas) successfully transitioned from being a beauty queen (winning Miss World 2000) to an actress. She has already made a name for herself in the Indian show business before landing the lead role in ABC’s thriller series, Quantico, in which she starred for three seasons as young FBI agent Alex Parrish framed for a bombing. Since then, she’s landed film roles such as the Baywatch reboot and the rom-com Isn’t It Romantic. Her gig on Quantico obviously sticks out with regard to the possibility of her playing a hero in the MCU, but she’s played a variety of characters in her career, making her a versatile addition to the franchise.
As the MCU begins a brand new chapter after Endgame, Marvel Studios is committed to better representation in their films, and having Chopra is definitely a step in the right direction. At this point, it’s hard to gauge where she could be popping up in the MCU moving forward, but The Eternals is reportedly assembling a diverse cast, meaning she could be one of the headlining characters, potentially joining Angelina Jolie. Otherwise, Marvel could be introducing an Indian hero on the big screen similar to what they’re doing with Shang Chi. Marvel has several Indian superheroes from the pages of the comics like X-Men 2099 and X-Nation founder Cerebra/Shakti Haddad or even a gender-swapped Raz Malhotra, who also becomes an iteration of Giant-Man. Ant-Man & the Wasp has also introduced Criminal scientist Dr. Elihas Starr/Egghead (Michael Cerveris) who has ties to Malhotra.
