After months of build-up, the full story trailer for Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite has arrived. Back in December, fans of the hit series got a welcome surprise when a trailer dropped for the upcoming installment. In it, Iron Man and Mega Man faced off against one another in an armored assault that many fans would love to see play out on cinema screens someday. The trailer also highlighted Captain Marvel, jumping to the big leagues ahead of her film debut, going toe-to-toe with Ryu from the Street Fighter series.
The day after, we got a gameplay trailer that gave us a better idea of what the new installment would be all about. Teased in the subtitle, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite will put Marvel’s Infinity Stones front and center as objects of power you can acquire and use in the game. Considering how much Marvel’s heroes have grown in popularity since the last game in the series, it’s no surprise that elements from the comics are being put front and center. More than that, but the Infinity Stones are a key part of the MCU, adding an extra layer of promotion for the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.
Similarly, the Marvel characters in the game look to all be those from the MCU. A leak yesterday of the possible roster for the game teased this theory, and the new trailer confirms as much. Along with the already established characters, Capcom’s Chun-Li, Strider, and Chris Redfield, will be joined by Avengers Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, and Captain America. Of course, the story trailer also provides us with a villain all of those heroes will have to face: Ultron Sigma.
Teased at the very end of the original trailer last year, Marvel villain Ultron and Mega Man foe Sigma will be using the power of the Infinity Stones to merge into a frightening new rogue with untold strength and an army of beings from both the Capcom and Marvel universe. Hopefully, future trailers will reveal some of the other villainous characters players will be able to use. On both sides, there are a number of new characters we’d love to see show up.
The tag of the trailer also indicates the Guardians of the Galaxy will be making their debut thanks to a funny exchange between Mega Man and Rocket Raccoon. Considering how popular they’ve become in recent years, it makes sense for them to make the jump to the hit game series. No doubt future looks at the game will show off the rest of the crew. With the game announced to be out this September, expect plenty of new trailers to follow.
Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite will be released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One September 19th and can be pre-ordered starting today.
