Now that we’ve been given an official launch date for highly-anticipated upcoming BioWare release, Mass Effect: Andromeda, fans of the franchise can mark their diaries after months of speculation and patience. Confirmed back at E3 2015, the game’s been a long time coming, and the official first looks promised a stunning and captivating title.

Much has been said about the way in which DLC is offered up to gamers. The Season Pass model has faced much scrutiny and so various options have been explored, with DLC even sometimes been given for free to those who have already paid full price for a game. Whilst there are likely plans for post-launch content to come to Andromeda, BioWare GM Aaryn Flynn took to his Twitter to speak to a fan who asked whether a Season Pass would be incorporated into proceedings.

Asked directly by one fan as to whether or not Andromeda would have a Season Pass, Flynn kept his response short but sweet: “Nope.” When asked if there would be DLC or not, and whether or not it’d be free, he added: “We’ll talk more about that later :)”.

Knowing that those behind Andromeda won’t be implementing a Season Pass is certainly an intriguing prospect. For games of this size, DLC is pretty much a given, so it’s going to be interesting to see just how BioWare deliver their extra content if that is indeed a route they decide to go down.

Of course, there is always the possibility that everything presented to gamers on launch day is everything that Andromeda will have to offer. Nowadays it’s rare for a game to be a complete experience as soon as it drops, but perhaps this would be a respected move by BioWare. Video games are the one medium that have maintained a steady price point throughout the years, so many find it odd that one would have to spend even more cash to get more of the same game.

In breaking this mould, Andromeda could pave the way for huge games of its type in the future. It’s strange that we’re at a point where gamers would be surprised to get 100% of what a title has to offer when paying launch day prices, so maybe it’s time to dial back the clock and get back to where things started.

Mass Effect: Andromeda will release on March 21 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
