A new Marvel Entertainment video features the Avengers: Endgame cast trying to decode an MCU-themed escape room. Director Joe Russo serves as the “GameMaster,” and the clip includes MCU stars Anthony Mackie, Letitia Wright, Sebastian Stan, and Benedict Cumberbatch.
Produced for $356 million, Avengers: Endgame has earned over $2.3 billion at the box office since releasing on April 26, making it the second highest-grossing movie of all time. In the film, the superheroes attempt to gain control of the six Infinity Stones, this coming after Thanos essentially changed the game in Avengers: Infinity War. The 22nd MCU installment precedes Spider-Man: Far From Home’s July release, which will officially mark the end of Phase 3. Avengers: Endgame features Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Wright as Shuri, Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, and Cumberbatch as Doctor Stephen Strange. As a director, the aforementioned Russo has now helmed four MCU films with his brother Anthony Russo.
Marvel Entertainment released a video called “Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame | Escape Room.” For the premise, the actors have 45 minutes to escape from an Avengers: Endgame-themed room. Nearby, Russo offers hints through a walkie talkie, and it takes the group approximately half the time to crack the first code. From there, Russo states “Let me the movies be your guide,” with the actors successfully ordering MCU movies in order to crack another code. A secret door then opens up, resulting in yet another challenge, much to the surprise of the collective MCU stars. The final challenge involves locating numerous hand props, and the group must arrange them according to various posters. Ultimately, the Avengers: Endgame stars manage to successfully complete the challenge with less than 20 seconds left on the clock. Watch the Escape Room video below.
While Avengers: Endgame continues to dominate the box office, the main cast has been posting behind the scenes videos and pictures on social media. Recently, Chris Hemsworth aka Thor shared a video of him dancing during a lunch organized by Robert Downey Jr., while Joe Russo posted a comedic photo of himself wielding Stormbreaker. In addition, Chris Evans (Captain America) shared a production video that ends with Hemsworth telling him to “f**k off,” but in a comedic way. Meanwhile, Avatar director James Cameron recently congratulated Avengers: Endgame for surpassing his 1997 film Titanic in terms of box office earnings.
The Avengers: Endgame Escape Room video further demonstrates that the MCU excels with fan engagement. While some blockbusters come and go, and others have a lasting shelf life through merchandising, Avengers: Endgame represents a cinematic juggernaut that effectively incorporates social media into the marketing campaign. For MCU fans, the willingness to engage goes a long way.
