Jay Pritchett has always been a tough guy but after marrying his second wife Gloria, he started to soften up. Instead of being the cold and distant father he was to Claire and Mitchell while they were growing up, he’s been a relatively present and monumental figure in his stepson Manny’s childhood (and now Joe’s).
Jay Pritchett’s house became a home the day he brought Gloria and Manny into his life. Now, his home has the colors and zest of Columbia thanks to Gloria’s eye for design. In fact, the longer he’s married to Gloria the more their home together begins to change. As you’ll see below, the Delgado-Pritchetts changed their paint color, artwork, and layout of their home without viewers even noticing. Until now…
THEY CHANGED THE COLOR OF THE STAIRCASE
When you walk into the Delgado-Pritchett household, the first thing you see is a small table and the staircase. The house is painted a variety of colors due to Gloria’s colorful heritage but it appears like they added red to the bottom of the staircase instead of its original beige. Red is much more colorful and seems to make the staircase stand out more anyhow.
AND SOMEHOW THEIR DOUBLE-OVEN DISAPPEARED
Inside the kitchen, we can always catch Gloria making one of her zesty recipes and Manny drinking a latte. It’s not too often we see Gloria or Jay using the oven (except for the Thanksgiving episode), so this small detail may have been missed. In the picture on the left, we can see their double oven beside the door and their microwave.
However, in the scene in the left, the ovens are no longer there. Where did they go? It’s not necessarily easy to add and remove ovens; it makes you wonder why the stage crew had to move or add it to begin with.
THE FAMILY PORTRAIT THEY TOOK IN SEASON ONE HANGS IN THEIR LIVING ROOM
In the 24th episode of the first season, the entire family got together for a family portrait. Claire set up the photographer and asked everyone to show up looking their best, wearing nothing but white. In typical Claire Dunphy fashion though, her plans fall through and everyone begins getting muddy.
Now that the family has mud all over their white clothes, they decide to take the picture anyway. It was a good learning moment for Claire. She realized she can’t control every situation, especially with a big family. And while the photoshoot was silly, it appears it’s Jay and Gloria’s favorite because it hangs proudly in their living room.
THEIR INTERVIEW ROOM TOTALLY CHANGED FROM THE FIRST EPISODE
When you rewatch the entire series of Modern Family, you’ll notice the biggest change out of 11 seasons. Gloria and Jay’s introduction to the sitcom shows them on a completely different couch in a completely different home.
The staircase is in a different spot, their windows are different, their furniture is clashing… It makes you wonder if the Delgado-Pritchetts moved without making note of it in the show? A more logical explanation is the production crew decided on a new layout for their home but it’s still a head-scratcher!
EYE SPY THE PRITCHETT-DELGADO WEDDING PORTRAIT
Fans were lucky enough to catch a few glimpses of Jay and Gloria’s wedding thanks to throwbacks in their wedding video. Oddly, however, there are not too many personal wedding-day photos around their home.
If you look closely in this scene, though, we can see a wedding day portrait of Gloria and Jay! Tucked away in a cute frame, it sits on a shelf in their living room.
THEIR ARTWORK CHANGES CONSTANTLY
While you’re rewatching all 11 seasons, you’ll notice a few artworks being changed. Their staircase, bar, and dining room seem to stay the same but it’s their kitchen that changes the most.
The scene on the right shows a larger painting by their kitchen island in the earlier seasons. As the episodes progress, the larger portrait was replaced by two smaller, less busy portraits.
GLORIA AND JAY’S MATCHING COFFEE MUGS
The Delgado-Pritchetts love their coffee, espresso, and fancy caffeinated beverages. Manny can always be seen drinking espresso and Jay is often seen with a coffee mug (if not a beer or a scotch).
If you take a closer look at the cups they’re drinking out of, Jay’s has a massive J on it while Gloria’s mug has a matching G. Having his and her coffee mugs doesn’t seem like the kind of thing Jay and Gloria would do but it sure is cute.
THE HOUSE’S ADDRESS IS PRACTICALLY IN VIEW
Like most sitcoms and reality TV shows, viewers want to know where the houses are actually located. Whenever a fan visits Hollywood, one of the many things on their to-do lists is visit the homes they see on TV.
Modern Family uses this particular home’s outside as the home for the Delgado-Pritchett’s but it’s not where the home’s scenes are actually filmed. The inside of the Delgado-Pritchett home is filmed inside a studio, but if you’re traveling to California, you can visit the outskirt of the house at 121 S. Cliffwood Ave, Brentwood,
YOU CAN BUY THEIR DECOR FOR CHEAP FROM WAYFAIR
When making a house a home in a sitcom, the production tries to match the home to the characters’ personalities.
And although the Delgado-Pritchetts are wealthy—with Gloria having expensive taste—it appears it’s easier than we thought to borrow their style. According to a blogger, they found most of the Delgado-Pritchetts’ decor on Wayfair!
WHERE DID THIS BOOK COME FROM?
In the episode “The Kiss,” we see Mitchell incredibly uncomfortable at the thought of kissing Cameron in front of his family (or in public). In fact, he goes so out of his way to dodge his (then) boyfriend’s kiss that Cameron actually falls over.
This leads into a long, heated discussion about the Pritchetts and their issues with affection that they got from Jay. However, when we look back at the scene where Cameron falls off the chair, the book on the ottoman disappears. Where could it have possibly gone?
