Mortal Kombat 11’s closed beta dates have been revealed, and fans who pre-ordered the title on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will get access to MK11 at the beginning of next week. The official Mortal Kombat Twitter announced earlier today that the closed beta’s start date as Wednesday, March 27.
Mortal Kombat 11 will be the first major release for the franchise in four years, and is being treated as one of the biggest releases in series history. Mortal Kombat 11’s trailers have made it appear to be a return to form for an IP that made its name on tongue-in-cheek, adolescent humor alongside brutal, imaginative fatalities. Recent reveals regarding the Mortal Kombat 11 roster have also indicated that it will feature many of the game’s most iconic fighters, alongside a few new ones that fans are eager to discover more about in the near future.
The official Mortal Kombat Twitter announced the start date of the open beta earlier today, indicating that it will launch on Wednesday, March 27 at 8am PT/11am ET/3pm GMT. The closed beta period will end on Sunday, March 31 in The Americas at 11:59pm PT/2:59am ET, with various other end times on Monday, April 1 for the rest of the world based on their time zone. Although the announcement seems a little complex for release dates, it’s certainly not the most complicated one we’ve ever seen, and it’s not even the most odd schedule of 2019. Anthem’s early access schedule was uniquely bizarre, and The Division 2’s release schedule was equally confusing. NetherRealm Studios and WB deciding to give the beta a few different start and end times based on regional time zones is just a good way to ensure players get roughly the same amount of time with the game.
One thing to note here: Mortal Kombat 11’s open beta won’t be coming to the PC platform. Pre-orders were only available for the PS4 and Xbox One, so PC users won’t be able to get in because of that. Given PC users’ penchant for modding everything they come into contact with, that’s probably for the best anyways, since the recent spat of datamining leaks would be best avoided by NetherRealm Studios ahead of the game’s release in a few weeks’ time.
Mortal Kombat 11 will be a massive release, and its open beta period will be an important glimpse into the game’s future as a result. Fans are anticipating one of the best offerings from the franchise yet, and with massive superstars like Ronda Rousey involved, the marketing for MK11 has fed into that excitement even more. In just over a week, we’ll have a better idea of what we’re in for with the game, courtesy of some lucky PS4 and Xbox One players.
