Microsoft August Update It’s nothing impressive, mainly a lot of security and bug fixes for the OS, Office, and firmware updates for Surface tablets. Earlier it was speculated that this update would include a new Start menu that combines aspects of the new Modern UI and the traditional Start menu, but Microsoft decided to scrap that, and it will presumably be available in the next version of Windows, codenamed “Threshold” which is said to be launched early next year....

Microsoft appears to be working on a new instant messaging app for the iPhone, acting as a kind of cross between email and instant messaging, known as Flow by Outlook. The download page, which describes the project as ‘Microsoft Confidential,’ was first spotted by @h0x0d (via ZDNet). The Apple/Google coronavirus contact tracing API hasn’t seen widespread adoption to date, but does now appear to be gathering pace, with more countries adopting it and others switching to it. During their panel at CCXP, Marvel Studios shared the first footage from Eternals, introducing the MCU’s team of near-immortal, mythological heroes. Marvel Studios is set to absorb Marvel TV, with Kevin Feige overseeing the division and Jeph Loeb exiting after the transition. It seems like most Mass Effect players would rather be a Paragon than a Renegade, at least according to John Ebenger. The EA Cinematic Designer weighed in on how fans of Bioware’s iconic sci-fi role-playing series would choose to be a conventional hero over a chaotic rogue on social media earlier this week, noting that players selected the Paragon options over the Renegade ones more often than not. The Matrix 4 has announced Jonathan Groff as the latest addition to the cast. He won’t be the only new actor appearing in the sequel. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has also been cast as a new lead, possibly appearing as a young Morpheus. Jessica Henwick and Neil Patrick Harris, rumored to be a new villain, will also join the Matrix franchise for the first time. Twitter user @YRH04E shared with us some internal Apple materials that reveal how the company operates those special cars with sensors and the protocols that the Apple Maps team must follow to capture images and other data across the streets. Apple began collecting data using modified vans, but now field operators drive a white Subaru Impreza, which is internally known as “Ulysses.” These vehicles are part of Apple’s 3D Vision team, which is responsible for combining multiple data with computer vision and machine learning technologies to provide 3D images on Apple Maps....

The team working on Metroid Prime 4 has welcomed Kyle Hefley into the fold as the studio’s new lead character artist. Halo fans may recognize the dev as the man responsible for designing Master Chief and Spartan Locke in Halo 5: Guardians. While not much is currently known about the next Metroid Prime title, Retro Studios does find itself in a unique position as a company that was approached to spearhead the project after another studio fumbled the development of a fourth Prime title to the point of cancellation....

The video pretends to be a “fly on the wall” during an Apple product development meeting, apparently attempting to make fun of the plastic materials and colors of the 5c. The videos don’t exactly position Windows Phone against iOS, simply taking jabs at iOS without explaining any benefits of the Microsoft platform....
